This lecture is the start of Block A: Modeling and Reasoning.

Information systems are used more and more in all kind of applications. Such systems can become very large. For example, the Informatie Beheer Groep handles all students from the Netherlands. This only is possible when they are supported by an effective information system.

Building such large systems really is a challenge for developers. What are the specific problems? And how can you manage to have a building contract that is agreed upon by the various stakeholders?

In this lecture we will see a base technique to get such an agreement and the central role that is played by the model. We will also learn the base techniques to construct a model.
