Lecture A3: The basic modeling technique
In this lecture we focus on the process of modeling.
Background
In the previous task we have described the information modeling process as a common activity between the domain expert and the system analyst to develop the information grammar. This grammar describes the common language shared by the application domain and the system analysis. In this task we further focus on the concept of information grammar. We discuss the limitations of our approach in terms of a system generations. Furthermore, we provide the underlying formal model for our approach.
Material
In this lecture we focus on chapter 4 of the lecture notes.
Targets
After this study task you will be able to:
- motivate the natural language based approach to information modeling.
- explain the various generations of information systems.
- represent the structure of an ORM schema as a AGFL grammar.
What you have to do
- Make exercises from the current chapter. (2h)
- Special exercise 1.
- We focus on Twitter and see that we have users that may follow each other and tweets being characterized by @-tags and #-tags. Device a conceptual scheme for this Universe of Discourse that covers the basic twitter actions.
