RESEARCH METHODS TRANSCRIPTION OF THE SECOND INTERVIEW (22/11/2012) Interviewee: Yongquan Ding Paula: So Let’s start, and first, what’s your age? Interviewee: 24. Paula: what’s your nationality? Interviewee: China. Paula: How about your education level? Interviewee: Master. Paula: So let’s start the quesitons, - first during the December holidays, can you tell us a list of people that you buy presents for? Interviewee: I give it to my parents, my girlfriends and my best friends. But actually I don’t buy presents during the December. Normally there are no special holidays in December. Normally for me, I don’t have the tradition to buy presents for parents or girlfriends in December. Achilleas: Do you buy presents for your parents together? Interviewee: Normally yes together. Paula: And how about the price?

Interviewee: For price is what depends. It really depends on what they need. Maybe it’s around within 200 Euros.

Achilleas: Do you have bought presents on December holidays for someone? Interviewee: No. Maybe just for my girlfriend during Christmas, that’s the only one. Paula: So talk about your girlfriend, what do you think is the good present for her? Interviewee: It really depends at that time what she wants. Normally maybe this time I will choose a cup for her because the newest Christmas pub of Starbucks is on sell, so I will choose this present. Really depends Paula: And how do you come up with the idea? Interviewee: Talking with my girlfriend and catching her idea and getting the opinion. Paula: So do you have a specific budget for buying the present for your girlfriend? Interviewee: Normally I think within 100 Euro is OK. Paula: Ok and you buy it online or go to the shop? Interviewee: It depends. For almost time if I have specific goal I will buy it online, it’s cheaper. Paula: And when do you usually buy your gifts? Interviewee: Before the Christmas within one week. Paula: And do you receive gifts from her? Interviewee: Yes, sometimes. Paula: OK, so last question. Just the Christmas holiday you send the presents? Interviewee: Yeah. I’m a cheap guy, less than fifty Euros for each one. Paula: Where would you usually buy the gifts for your friends? What about other holidays on December? Interviewee: No, I don’t think the other holidays Paula: So just the Christmas? Interviewee: Yes, because Christmas is not that popular in China and the New year is same. So we don’t have some holidays in December. It’s not a good time to buy gifts. Paula: It’s OK. Achilleas: The other question is what website do you buy gifts? Interviewee: The website names “Taobao”, something like “e-bay”. Achilleas: Do you sometimes buy presents together for your girlfriend with other people? Interviewee: No.
