Welcome!

This course focuses on setting up and doing research. We take a broad perspective when considering the term 'research':

  • identifying, analysing and solving problems
  • guided by a precisely formulated research question
  • performed through justified methods
  • so that the result is reliable.

What is scientific research? How do you go from a vaguely formulated problem to a good research question? How does the scientific world function? We will consider these questions as we explore the world of research in this course.

We will critically examine examples of research and the reporting of research in the media. You will learn how to set up your own research plan and to apply several frequently used methods.
